Rawalpindi Faces Reduced Water Supply as Rawal Dam Repairs Begin in february
Water supply to Rawalpindi from Rawal Dam will be reduced by up to 50 percent from 2026, due to scheduled cleaning and repair work on the dam’s canal system.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting of the Small Dam Organisation and WASA Rawalpindi. Officials said repair and desilting work on the main canal will be carried out from
Maintenance activities on the right and left bank canals will then continue until February 11, during which WASA will receive a limited supply of raw water from Rawal Dam.
The reduction is expected to impact areas such as Committee Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Old Fort, Mohanpura, Bagh Sardaran, Dhok Mangtal, and Arya Mohalla. Authorities said water from Khanpur Dam and tube wells will remain available as usual.
WASA officials confirmed that tube wells, water bowsers, and mini filtration plants will be used to manage the shortfall. Residents have been urged to conserve water until the normal supply is restored after February 11.
